About

A career in horticulture is a never ending learning curve, and for me the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience through Curve 21 to bridge the disconnect between people and nature through gardens and landscape is a new and vital part of that journey.

How did I get here?

My experience is grounded in the development of large private gardens in Surrey, Oxfordshire, Cheshire and Yorkshire.

Each successive role crossed the boundaries of head gardener, into project management, contemporary garden and landscape design, landscape recovery and an ever wider stake holder engagement. As each role grew, the research behind every part of my practice continued to develop through study, conference attendance and international travel. As a Chartered horticulturist I have followed my experience in fruit pruning to be part of a European Network of Gardeners who celebrate the art of the Espalier and in the UK to expand my knowledge in the protection of ancient and veteran trees.

How does experience translate into my practice at Curve 21 ?

The multi layered garden and landscape roles I have held have provided me with a knowledge of the bigger picture that is described as a landscape scale way of thinking.

As a consultant I aim to make long term relationships with clients, creating management plans to build their own knowledge and guide their investments in their gardens and landscapes.

Establishing connections between our public spaces, woodland belts, community gardens and educational establishments I see as intrinsic to reconnecting us with nature. To this end I have started to promote participatory involvement that will create corridors of biodiversity and provide the opportunity for education and promote well being.

For private clients I offer a design approach that assimilates years of experience and creative thinking to provide you with a space that is unique and beautiful, rich in biodiversty, manageable and above all resilient.

My Portfolio

To provide privacy for my previous employers and clients and to build trust in my new practice, my portfolio of work is only available to be viewed on an in-person basis. It is only with the permission of the owners and group members that the case study gardens appear on this website.

From my portfolio I will be able to talk through my experience of developing gardens from 10 to 45 acres, and estates ranging from 22 to 1000 acres.
